The Mountains Are Calling…

The mountains are calling and I must go.  – John Muir

For a little while before Honeybean was born, I had believed that we might run out of things to do if we visited New Hampshire too often.

I was wrong.

Another trip to the White Mountains of New Hampshire and adventures were around every corner.

The weather was a mix of sunny, crisp, autumn chilliness and a touch of gloomy clouds – just enough to make you want to cozy up by the fire.

We had a blanket of crabapples covering our side yard.  We considered making cider, but instead opted to use the bushel of apples we brought with us to make cobbler.

Lots of walks through the woods – and thanks to a couple of great finds at some local consignment stores – a new scarf for all that chill in the air, and new side table for a reading spot in the living room.

The umbrellas are still up in Littleton, and the grist mill has finally reopened as a brewery.

Schilling Brewery offered up some great Belgian styles in a kitschy atmosphere.  While I miss the Littleton Grist Mill, you can still order their grinds online, and Schilling now offers a new hotspot for the locals (and out-of-towners) to enjoy.

Excitement abounds in gold and brown!

Meanwhile, back at the cabin…

The last of the summer flowers were poking around a while longer, while the winter berries started to make their entrance.

Being in New Hampshire is like stepping into the future for a bit – with New England’s seasons just ahead of ours here in the Mid-Atlantic.

Oh, and the dogs.  It’s their favorite vacation spot, too.

Don’t be alarmed – they are Dachshunds. Not Dobermans.

As is customary for any vacation, we visited a local winery.  Seven Birches is just a quick 10 minute drive from our cabin.  Their tastings offer over a dozen wines to try – from Cabernet to Pinot Gris to Blueberry – and you select which ones you want with some fun “playing cards.”

And then, there were pumpkins.  We couldn’t leave without one.

The mountains were calling and we went.  And we’ll go again and again.
