DIY Blogger Project for January: Cold & Flu Remedy

So, I’m participating in this great, year-long DIY Blogger Project.  In a nutshell, each month, we are posting a prescribed DIY project and then linking up with each other to see what the other bloggers are posting.  For January, it’s my own DIY Cold & Flu Remedy.  Next month is the Home Organization project… I’m having a love/hate reaction to that one.  But we’ll get to that in February.

In the meantime, here is my very own cold and flu remedy – which can also be used as a preventive measure, too – just sip a cup every day throughout cold and flu season.  But, if you happen to land up with a cold or (shudder) the flu, give this lovely hot drink a try.  If anything, it’ll make you feel better.

To 8 ounces of very hot water (not boiling), add the following:

  • The juice of half of a fresh lemon (don’t use the bottled stuff)
  • 1 tablespoon of raw honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon of freshly grated ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon of pure, unsweetened cranberry juice
  • Dash of cinnamon

Stir everything together well and allow it to sit for a few minutes before drinking.

I swear, it works.  And, of course, you can adjust the recipe to suit your taste.  If you want it sweeter, put more honey – just remember that too much sugar in your diet can actually lower your immune system’s ability to ward off disease.  Can’t find raw honey?  Use the regular stuff – just make sure that you are using actual honey, and not corn syrup (in other words, read labels).

And, of course, if you want more to drink in one sitting, use a bigger cup and more water – just remember the taste will be diluted.

Every time the chilly months roll in, I turn to this immune-boosting cuppa not only to ward off the sickies, but it’s also just nice to cozy up with this lovely steeped drink.
